In 2009, the Puerto Rico Film Festival was bo, celebrating cinema and art in Puerto Rico.
Over 1,200 short films and films from more than 65 countries were presented in 2019, making it the most prominent film event in Puerto Rico.
To create a better vision for the future of the arts, PRFF advocates a diverse array of breathtaking films from around the world.
An industry jury and audience judge each film, which is selected from a wide selection of talented new films each year.
The festival aims to elevate cinema by fostering active education, promoting social impact, and enlightening the culture. This platform is designed to establish our filmmakers as a talent pool with greater reach and impact globally.
We serve as a multicultural platform through which our national cinema can interact with international markets.
PRRF awards prizes to emerging filmmakers' best new short films after presenting them in a series of Jury and Audience Awards. We also present films promoting values, family, and social issues.
The PRFF has been thriving for 12 years, creating an annual event centered on passion and inspiration that offers opportunities for filmmakers from all over the world. PRFF has an international audience and a yearly proposal unmatched by any other film festival in the world.
As a result of the experience gained over the years, we understood the importance of a festival that can meet the highest expectations of the local film industry.
We have taken the challenging decision to transform the festival into the Puerto Rico Film Festival after long hours of meeting with our festival board and consultation with great pillars of the local film industry.
As an institution, this festival has become known for providing a platform for filmmakers to display their work. We want to continue that tradition by promoting Puerto Rico as a worldwide film hub while showcasing the artistic excellence of the island and the creativity of the participants.
